Turkey Day and Black Friday
Thanksgiving was a fun week. Alex and I went to KC Sunday afternoon after visiting his brother's family for a first birthday party. Long drive, but it helps to have the one hour time difference. Alex somehow got stuck driving through St Louis again, and I totally blew the exit for my favorite little pasta place. D'oh.
We helped my parents do yard work, did most of our christmas shopping (and wrapping, even without much christmas paper :-D), and spent some quality time together. My mom had the turkey smoked at a local smokehouse this year and it was (and still is) amazing. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend it. Moist, juicy, and all you have to do is reheat if you want.
We also participated in Black Friday. Alex wanted to go for a couple things, so my dad and I tagged along. We rolled up to Best Buy at like 5:17 and the parking lot was already packed and people were leaving with carts packed with boxes. Turns out that people started lining up the day before around 8am and just camped all night. They were already out of the monitor Alex wanted, but we picked up some DVDs and a new hard drive, and even though the line was about 100 people deep, they had close to 15 registers going and we waited less than 20minutes. Circuit City on the other hand had only about 4 registers open, so we took a look at the line and didn't bother looking for the few items we wanted there. Breakfast and a couple more stores, and we went home and took a nap.
I came down with a cold/sinus infection Friday afternoon, I think as a combination of all the yard work being bad for my allergies and not sleeping well/much on Thursday. The drive back home was kinda rough, although I made the effort to drive St Louis and managed not to miss my exit this time. We rolled into our driveway at close to 1am, unpacked the leftover my mom sent us with, and went to bed. Said leftovers are mostly gone now, even though we came back with a cooler full including close to 5lbs of said amazing smoked turkey and a bag full of homegrown fancy lettuce (the kind that you get at the store for like $5/lb).
Otherwise, I am mostly better although I can tell I hadn't been to the gym in over a week, and am still waiting to hear back on employment.
Is it really almost December?
