The hunt is on

Ahh, the joys of being unemployed. I was let go from my previous employer at the beginning of September. While the announcement was itself a shock since I was not expecting it, I have come to grips with having to search for a new job. I am fortuate enough to have received a severance package and have the luxury of re-evaluating what I want to do.

I have been hooked up with a local company that does career counseling through some reading material, web based training, and teleconferences. The hope is that this will help me focus on what I am good at, what I want to do, and help me polish the skills to go out and nail the next job. This is not a placement agency. I started working though the program today and it should be quite the growth tool.

If only I could decide what I want to do. I think I would do well in management eventually, but I will need several more years experience before I feel ready to take the step to that level. I also want to get my MBA. I was thinking I could do a good job in technical sales, or maybe training. Unlike Alex, I do not want to do design, and I would love to travel up to about 35% and not be stuck behind my desk all the time.

Any suggestions?
